Sacred Circle Dance Coming to Accotink! Feb. 18

On Sunday, Feb. 18, Sacred Wheel will sponsor a special guest, Laura Shannon, who will present a program of Women’s Ritual Dances as Prayers for Peace.  We will be dancing in the sanctuary from 2:30-4:30 p.m., followed by refreshments and snacks in the gallery. All are invited to continue the conversation afterward with a soup and salad dinner at the home of Judy R. No registration or fee is required; a collection will be taken to support Laura’s research and travels.

All dances are low-impact and patiently taught by Laura Shannon; no dance experience is necessary. With more than 35 years of experience researching and teaching, Laura is considered to be one of the “grandmothers” of the Circle Dance movement, and brings her inspiring workshops, performances and trainings to over twenty countries. Traditional Greek, Balkan and Armenian dances embody an ancient worldview of sustainability, community, and reverence for the earth, which has roots in the peaceful, egalitarian cultures of Neolithic Old Europe. Blending folk dance, circle dance and dance/movement therapy, Laura’s teaching seeks to rekindle this awareness and to rediscover the hidden wisdom encoded in the dances.
