This year, the traditional reading of names included in Accotink Memorials will be during the Nov. 2nd All Souls Sunday service. This year’s service will be an “all music” format. Stay tuned for the details.
At the service, we will be asking for donations to support the ongoing maintenance costs of the Memorials. Please make checks payable to “AUUC Memorial Fund” and mail to the church at 10125 Lakehaven Court, Burke, VA 22015.
The Accotink Memorials are not included in the annual church budget, but rather, are funded by directed donation and purchase of columbarium niches, cenotaph wall placements and tree of remembrance leaves. To address the need for regular income to the Memorial Fund for ongoing maintenance, the committee asks for donations from the congregation in May (Memorial Day) and November (All Souls).
This past June, the congregation voted to amend the church bylaws, designating the Memorial Fund as a perpetual care endowment to support the Memorials. The endowment designation allowed the committee to move the bulk of the Memorial Fund assets to a UU Common Endowment Fund account. The goal now is to grow the Fund in preparation for the long-term maintenance needs and eventual expansion of the Memorials.
For more information about the Accotink Memorials, send us a note at memorials@accotinkuu.org or speak with any of the committee members. The committee members are: Peggy Eckerman, Ed Kringer, Susan Brown, Steve Brown, and Don Eckerman.
Thanks for reading, and please give generously on Nov. 2nd!
